Authentically athletic

A martial art derived from jujitsu, judo made its first Olympic appearance in 1964 before joining permanently in 1972. Women’s judo was introduced at the 1992 Games. Canada has won five medals in Olympic judo competition.

Judo joined the Canada Winter Games program in 1971, only featuring male events before women’s events were added in 1987. Notable alumni include Jessica Klimkait, Nicolas Gill, Antoine Valois-Fortier, and Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard.
