Coaching Association of Canada Announces 2023 Women in Coaching Canada Games Apprentice Coaches

OTTAWA (April 14, 2022) – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2023 Canada Games Women in Coaching Apprenticeship Program.

The program is a partnership of Canada’s Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representatives (PTCRs), the Canada Games Council (CGC), and the CAC. It provides the opportunity for each province and territory to send two (2) women coaches to the Canada Games in apprenticeship roles. In 2023, Prince Edward Island is hosting the Canada Winter Games.

“The Canada Games provides apprentice coaches the ideal setting to further their professional development by connecting them with high-performance coach mentors through the context of a major national multisport games experience. The CAC is proud in supporting the successful development of the next generation of coaches through this impactful program,” says Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC.

As fully accredited members of their respective provincial/territorial team, apprentice coaches receive valuable professional development opportunities that can lead them to achieving their Competition – Development certification within the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). These benefits include exposure to domestic multi-sport games, support from a dedicated mentor coach, and exposure to high performance coaches from across Canada.

"Congratulations to the coaches selected to the Women in Coaching Apprenticeship Program for the 2023 Canada Winter Games on Prince Edward Island. The Canada Games are committed to creating greater opportunities for women in sport and we are proud to work with the CAC to support these coaches in their development. We strive to spark greatness in future generations and empower aspiring coaches to see themselves in the Canada Games,” says Kelly-Ann Paul, President and Chief Executive Officer of the CGC.

The 2023 Women in Coaching Apprentice Coaches are as follows:
