Sustainable Development: The 2027 Canada Games Host Society Begins Biosphere Certification

Québec, Quebec – The 2027 Canada Games Host Society is pleased to embark on the eco-responsibility Biosphere certification process through the Destination Quebec Cité program. This initiative will allow the Host Society to acquire additional expertise that aligns with the sustainability ambitions of the Canada Games.

"In organizing a large-scale event such as the Canada Games, we must absolutely consider its social and environmental impacts. Sustainable development is part of the DNA of the Games. We must constantly question ourselves and improve our practices in this regard," emphasizes Marie-Hélène St-Onge, CEO of the 2027 Canada Games Host Society. "The Biosphere program in sustainable tourism will provide us with excellent tools and methods to help us produce environmentally responsible Games."

Background
This initiative is part of the sustainability approach of the Canada Games Council. It aims to reduce the environmental footprint of the Games and promote advancements in the field, while generating social and economic benefits in host communities. With ambitious targets for carbon neutrality, it revolves around three main areas: energy and climate, circularity and waste, and natural regeneration.
