The 2027 Canada Games: the countdown is on and the excitement grows!

Québec - The City of Québec has confirmed that plans for the 2027 Canada Games are well underway. The City has revealed the dates of the Games and announced a public tender for the construction of a brand new curling rink.

A lasting legacy

The public tender will allow organizers to secure the professional services needed to build a curling rink, which will host competitions in 2027 and could become one of the potential legacies of the Games for Québec. Located at Rue des Rocailles and Boulevard Pierre-Bertrand, the rink will become a mainstay of the curling scene, with eight sheets and other sports facilities.

“For Ville de Québec, the Canada Games are an opportunity to encourage everyone to be active,” said Bruno Marchand, Mayor of Québec. “What better way to do this than a modern, sustainable, and well-equipped curling rink? Our hope is that the new rink will be a people place, open to all, and a true sporting inspiration.”

In the interest of sustainable development and to encourage participation in sports, the Host Society and the host municipality must designate at least one major facility built or renovated for the Games. The chosen facility will then be named (or renamed). In 1967, the legacy of the Canada Games was Pavillon de la jeunesse on the ExpoCité grounds.

The countdown is on!

It’s official: from February 26 to March 15, 2027, Québec will welcome the best athletes in the country!

On September 1, the city submitted its hosting plan to the Canada Games Council. With this first major step completed, the Host Society will be all set to begin organizing this major sporting event once its plan has been approved by the Council.

“We’re really excited at Ville de Québec to be crossing these important milestones on the way to the 60th Games,” said Jean-François Gosselin, Executive Committee member with responsibility for the Canada Games. “With confirmed dates in hand and a hosting plan soon to be approved, we’ll be free to pull out all the stops with our partners to put on an event that does us proud at Ville de Québec.”

Ville de Québec awards $1.14 million to the Host Society

The Host Society and its dedicated members committed to fulfilling their financial commitments to the Canada Games Council submitted a grant application to Ville de Québec. The municipality has awarded $1.14 million in financial support, to help cover the city’s bid costs as well as costs related to getting the Host Society up and running and hosting the event. This support is made possible thanks to the Major Projects support program, Vision entrepreneuriale Québec 2026, and Fonds régions et ruralité.

“I’d like to thank Ville de Québec for supporting the Host Society,” said Denis Servais, President of the 2027 Canada Games Host Society. “With this funding, we will be able to continue the work that is well underway to bring all the excitement of the Games to the people of Québec!”

2027 Canada Games

Québec is set to host the 31st Canada Winter Games in 2027, marking a return to the birthplace of the Games 60 years after the inaugural event in 1967.

The Canada Games are the largest amateur multisport competition in the country, bringing together thousands of remarkable able-bodied athletes and athletes with disabilities every two years, alternating between summer and winter.
